I Get That.

I have people ask me why I don't always ride my wooden boards or have pictures of me riding them.  Well, there are a couple reasons for that.  Most of the time it's out of fear of breaking one.  I've broken wood and foam boards by being in the wrong place at the wrong time.  It happens.  I like to ride my wood ones when it's a high tide roller type of wave.  That's when they work best.  Remember, I'm riding beach break here.  If I was back in SD at Sunset Cliffs.  I'd be riding my wood boards all the time.

The boards I build are meant for surfing.  I'm not building stuff to hang on the wall, so please be patient.  I'll be posting more pictures of me surfing the wood ones.  It takes a special day, but it's very satisfying to get out there with one.  They are some of the most fun boards I've ever ridden.  The other thing is, there are times when I do ride my wood boards, but my girlfriend Julie isn't there to take pictures of me.  I try to give accurate ride reports when that happens.

Gettin back to the blunt nose.

It's been a while since I've done any work on this one.  There were some seams on the top that needed attention, but overall it's in good shape.  I chopped it down to 9' 6".  My next step is to make the nose piece and tail block.  Thanks to Mike Skinner I have some beautiful burl for those parts.

Mini Simmons is done.

I did a sand finish and pressure tested it today.  It held pressure and it's ready for wax and water.  I hope to get out in the next few days, if we get some waves.  I could really use a session.  This was a fun little project and it was an easy build compared to a longboard.

Hot Coat the mini

The fins are glassed in.  The bottom only took 9 oz. for it's hot coat.  The weather is a little cool today (60's) so I'll pull my tape in a couple hours.

The top is done.  It also took 9 oz.  I'm looking forward to finishing soon.

The top and bottom are laminated.  The glass is S2 4 oz. with epoxy.  These little boards are so easy to glass.

Still learnin

We had a couple of nice days last week.  It was warm enough for me to wanna go out and enjoy some fun little waves.  It's important to me to get out and surf when the conditions are right.  I'm enjoying riding shorter boards and learned another lesson.  Less is more.  It's a lot more fun to take out a shorter board most of the time.  Less board to manage, easier to turn and easier for the peaky drops we have here.

Thanks to my girlfriend Julie for the pictures.
